After many fleeting and ultimately abandoned blog efforts over the years, I’ve been getting the itch to do it again. But this time, instead of just making snarky comments on New York Times articles, I’m hoping to accomplish something more interesting.
Ostensibly, then, this blog will document my quest to write my dissertation. I’m hoping to share some of the thought process that goes into it, and to provide a somewhat handy reference for other ABDs wondering (like I am right now) how the hell you go about turning thousands of pages of documents and months of research into something that vaguely resembles a book manuscript.
Of course, there will still be snarky comments on New York Times articles. Since this is a historical record of my dissertation-writing process, part of this blog (quite possibly the greater part of it) will be a chronicle of how I’m not writing my dissertation. In this way, it might also be a useful guide to folks working on a Ph.D, since it’ll offer some tips for procrastination, as well as links to diversions that will facilitate the not-completing-your-dissertation portion of completing your dissertation.
Anyway, here goes nothing.
Good luck!
